All ballet classes are taught in a classical manner using the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet syllabus, and the Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT) We stress correct terminology, body placement, body direction, proper technique and controlled stretching. At the Primary level all classes use a fun but structured class foundation while using props and a variety of music. As Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms, it is strongly encouraged for all serious dance students.
PROGRESSIVE BALLET TECHNIQUE (PBT)
Advanced Dancers ages 10+
Taken from the PBT website: Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program developed by Marie Walton-Mahon for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory in achieving their personal best in classical ballet.
Marie has experimented with outstanding success the use of muscle memory to improve students understanding of core stability, weight placement and alignment for many decades.
Safe Dance training has been a passion of Marie’s as an educator for over 40 years. It is difficult for students to feel what muscles initiate the correct alignment in ballet training, however, as the fit ball is continually mobile under the students’ body, it gives the students a sense of posture and weight –placement whilst feeling each correct muscle group.
PRE POINTE & POINTE
Advanced Dancers ages 10+
Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which the ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. Dancers will begin all pointe classes in barefeet. Once a dancer has emphasized proper turnout, strength and control of the feet will they then move into pointe shoes. Dancers en pointe must take a minimum of 2 ballet classes per week.
This dance form is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Hip Hop is fun and energetic! This class focuses on age appropriate hip hop dancing and music that your kids will love. They will not only learn high energy hip hop choreography but basic dance technique as well.
Acro dance is a form that includes acrobatic movements. The gymnastic technique that acrobatic dancers can incorporate into a dance routine include handstands, cartwheels, and handsprings. While acrobatics or gymnastics are not forms of dance, they can become dance techniques if the dancer adds rhythm in time to the music with true dance steps.
